Photo recap of KEVIN GEEKS OUT ABOUT LADY ROBOTS

The August 27th show at Nitehawk Cinema sold-out.

I can't possibly do justice to the event, but here's photographic evident that it happened, along with a video.

Don't miss the next show, KEVIN GEEKS OUT ABOUT THE APOCALYPSE, Thursday September  17th at Nitehawk Cinema. Get tickets HERE

 Lady Robot as Femme Fatale

A discussion on the lady robot as femme fatale asked the question: is the femme fatale a strong female character or a sexist stereotype. Later someone asked "Why can't it be both at the same time?" That's what we explore in Kevin Geeks Out.

Kevin Geeks Out About LADY ROBOTS

The August KEVIN GEEKS OUT show is all about Lady Robots: a virtual parade of female robots from the last 100 years of science fiction, featuring Frisky Fembots of the 1960s, Cyber-clones of the ‘20s, Killer Androids of the ‘80s and much more.

This show spotlights ass-kicking killbots and seductive replicants, plus electric grandmothers and feminist revolutionaries. Kevin and guests explore the question: what does a wholly manufactured woman want, and what will she do to get it?

with Co-Host Tom Blunt and special guests:

Cici James (owner of Singularity & Co. sci-fi bookstore)

Moon Ribas (co-founder, The Cyborg Foundation)

Seth Porges (technology writer/editor)

Jenn Northington (co-founder, Bookrageous)

and more

This world-famous Alamo Drafthouse is the perfect home for the Kevin Geeks Out series. "I've had some excellent times seeing special events at the Drafthouse," Kevin Maher said during a recent press conference that really did happen and isn't something he just made up here. "I attended Phantasmania -- where they showed all four Phantasm movies over the course of three midnight shows, with cast and crew present. And I was there for Bruce Campbellpalooza. The Alamo Drafthouse was an influence on the Kevin Geeks Out show, so it's perfect that we team up now that they're in New York."

Photoshopped Penguin Signs

December is lovely in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, partly because so many of my neighbors decorate their front yards.

Every day I'd walk by this inflatable penguin and think of something else for the sign to say (i.e. "Global Warming is REAL!")

I decided to ask the Facebook community to help photoshop this image.

Kevin Geeks Out About Dream Sequences (sort of)

How often do you get to produce a show with one of your favorite people/ inspiring peers?

Next Friday I'm getting to do just that, with the always wonderful Tom Blunt.  He's has been hosting MEET THE LADY an excellent video variety show.  (named after Tom's photo blog about women he would like to meet.)

This month he invited me to co-host and co-curate the show.

MEET THE LADY is like my "Kevin Geeks Out" series, a video variety show arranged around a theme, with guest speakers/performers, rare film clips, trivia and prizes.

The March 25th show is all about that wonderful trope: THE  DREAM SEQUENCE.  Our 2-hour extravaganza will include dozens of clips, plus:

WATCH KEVIN'S REEL

Working with Kanbar Entertainment, Kevin co-authored seven treatments for animated feature films, developed two animated television series and co-wrote a sequel/Holiday special to the hit animated movie Hoodwinked!

Kevin created three original web-series including AMC's The Sci Fi Department (short-listed for a Webby) and Comedy Central/Atom's Old People News.

On stage Kevin created the multi-media shows Video Vaudeville and Kevin Geeks Out, a monthly confabulation of vintage film clips, guest experts, interactive games and curiosities.  Over the course of the run, Kevin "geeked out" about Bigfoot, Robots, KISS, Video Games,  Dummy DeathsAlien Encounters and Batman. (For that show he wrote 100 haiku about Batman.) The show was a favorite of critics, from The New York Times to Scientific American.

Before that, he performed solo comedies including the off-Broadway show "Lone Drifter."  Before that, he was one-third of the sketch comedy trio TV Head.

Journalists have compared Kevin to Ernie Kovacs and Jonathan Winters, but his highest praise came from Tiger Beat who called him "funny!"
